As the Chancellor of the Exchequer prepares to deliver his Autumn Statement on 22 November 2023, he is facing a number of challenges.
With a general election on the horizon, and with the tax burden at historically high levels, the Chancellor is facing calls from all sides to cut taxes. Given the current state of the UK economy, high Government borrowing costs, and public expenditure demands, significant tax cuts look unlikely. Nevertheless, the Chancellor will be looking to pull whatever levers he can to support businesses and individuals and to boost growth.
